As The Page Turns - November 2018

November 8, 2018

Pictured to the left is Librarian Karen Wallace and Osborne Chamber of Commerce president, Jim HIndman.  OPL would like to thank the chamber for donating the funds for us to purchase our iConnect at the Osborne Public Library cups.  These were handed out at a multi-state library conference with the chamber businesses attached to the cup.  You will see these cups at upcoming events.

The library is busy getting ready for the Christmas season this year.  Join us for the following events.

McFadden Christmas Tree Forest – Once again the library will be filled with Christmas Trees and Wreaths from local businesses, organizations, and individuals.  Come in and vote for your favorite one with an item for the local food pantry.  For each item you bring, you will receive a ticket to be put in a drawing for a donated basket.  Last year the library collected a little over 1200 items for the food pantry.  Help us reach our goal of 1300 items this year.  If you would like to enter a tree or wreath or donate a basket contact the library.  Voting will begin on the entries on December 1st and basket winners will be announced on December 21st.

Breakfast with The Grinch – The annual holiday storytime for children is taking on a new look this year.  On December 1st from 8am to 10am you can stop by the library and have breakfast with the Grinch.  He will be reading a holiday story at 9am that morning.  The OPL board of trustees, staff and wonderful volunteers will be serving Grinchcakes for breakfast.  Join us for this new event.

Holiday closings – The library will be closed on Thursday, November 22nd for Thanksgiving.  Regular hours will resume on Friday the 23rd.  The library will be closed December 24th and 25th for the Christmas holiday.  The library will close at 5pm on Monday, December 31st.

Youth Programs – The library is full of kids for all kinds of activities.  An average of 80 kids are attending the different programs for their age group each week.  Just a reminder that library policy states that a child under the age of 7 should be accompanied by an adult when not participating in a program.

Book of the Month – The November book of the month is “The Christmas Caramel Murder” by Joanne Fluke.  If you would like a copy to read contact the library.  Our discussion night will be on November 29th at 5:30pm.  People coming to the discussion are encouraged to bring a holiday treat.  There will be no book for the month of December.

Remember:

Library staff is always happy to help you find a book.  If we don’t have what you are looking for, ask a staff member to help you locate one that can be borrowed from another library.

Library cards can open up new formats for you to read or listen to books.  If you have not gotten a new card in the last couple of years or have lost yours, stop by the library and get one.  New formats such as magazines and movies will be available for downloads after the first of the year.  You will need a library card to access the service for free.

Our hours are, M & Th – 10-7, Tu, W, F – 10-5 and Sat. 10-2.  The library is closed on Sundays.

The online card catalog can be accessed from our website, http://www.ospublib.com  or at http://catalog.ckls.org

The library is a wireless hotspot provided by Nex-Tech.
